Pediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnea

April 6, 2018Dr. Abdullah SayedSleep Apnea

When most people think about sleep apnea, they think of a middle-aged man snoring away while his partner is struggling to sleep. That said, sleep apnea affects more than men and is under-recognized in both women and especially in children. Dr. Sayed will be hosting an upcoming course about pediatric sleep apnea.

The treatments and symptoms for children with obstructive sleep apnea vary in comparison to adults. On April 25, Dr. Sayed will be hosting Dr. Sean P. Edwards to discuss the treatments available for children and how to better understand and screen for pediatric sleep apnea.

Dr. Sean P. Edwards

Dr. Sean Edwards is the Chief of Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and he’s an invaluable resource for learning about pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. He’s committed to sharing his extensive knowledge and this will help course participants better understand and treat children with sleep apnea.

Topics During Sessions

During the session, they’ll discuss several topics related to pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. First, they’ll talk about the difference between adult and pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. After that, they’ll go over the health consequences that obstructive sleep apnea has on children.

The next topic of discussion will be treatment options available and how treatment options vary with age. Lastly, they’ll examine how to recognize patients that are at an increased risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea so they can get the treatment they deserve.

Devotion to Progress

Dr. Sayed is devoted to using the latest technology and techniques to ensure our patients get the quality care they deserve. There’s still much to learn about sleep apnea and new research is constantly developing to help doctors treat and mitigate its effects.

If you or your child habitually snores or you think a loved one may have sleep apnea, then it’s time for a sleep test. It can be taken in the comfort and privacy of your own home and allows physicians to diagnose sleeping disorders. Sleep apnea is extremely treatable and there are numerous alternative options available for those who have trouble with CPAP, such as convenient and noninvasive oral appliances.
