Before you can get that smile you have always dreamed about, your candidacy for the treatment will need to be established by Dr. Sayed. This will be accomplished in your first appointment, which is also the perfect chance for you to ask any additional questions you may have about your dental implant procedure.
The next portion of your procedure involves attaching the artificial titanium root piece to your jawbone. During this procedure, a small hole will be drilled into your jawbone and the titanium implant fixture will be eased into the hole. After this is done, the incision site will be closed and you will be sent home to heal.
Once your implant fixture has healed sufficiently, you will return to expose the fixture piece once again and attach a middle piece called an abutment. After this part, you will then be sent home for a second period of healing. Just as with the first period of healing, you should avoid chewing on the implant site and carefully follow our doctors’ orders.
The next stage of your dental implant procedure involves the careful crafting of your replacement tooth. This is an important part of the process because it will be specially designed to precisely match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth.
After your crown is complete and your implant site has healed properly, Dr. Sayed will connect your new replacement tooth to the abutment piece. Once this happens, you can sit back and enjoy your stunning and functional new smile!
After dental implant surgery, patients are sent home with a detailed list of after-care instructions. Patients will need to avoid putting pressure on the implant site, restrict activities, and rest for the first day. Patients should expect mild pain and should inspect the site for any irregularities, swelling, or bleeding. If you notice any of these things, contact our office immediately for further instruction. For more information on what you can expect after your surgery, please see our blog on What To Expect After Dental Implant Placement.
Keeping dental implants clean is typically very easy because no extra steps are required. This means that you can keep your dental implants healthy by brushing and flossing daily. Regular dental examinations are also necessary since your implants are cleaned and examined at this time. Patients should also be sure to check their implant site regularly to look for any abnormal signs.
For the most part, the installation procedure is no more painful than a simple tooth extraction. To ensure your comfort during the procedure, a local anesthetic will usually be administered. After your procedure, over-the-counter pain medication like Advil or Aleve can usually be used to control any remaining pain. Ice packs can also be used to reduce swelling and pain.
